The Election Commission has issued a notification for the election to be held on September 9 for the post of Vice President and with this the nomination process has started. According to the notification, the last date for filing nomination is 21 August, while the documents will be examined on 22 August.
The last date to withdraw the name from the election match is 25 August. The post became vacant on July 21 after Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation, citing health reasons. Dhankhar’s term was to end in August 2027. According to constitutional provisions, a person elected to the post in the state of mid -term election gets a full five -year tenure.
Election program for the post of Vice President

How is the result of Vice Presidential election?
The Vice President is elected by a special electoral college, including elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha, including elected and nominated members of the Lok Sabha. It does not include members of state assemblies, who participate in the presidential election. Voting is from single transferable Vote. To win the candidate, the quota has to be completed on the basis of priority fixed on the ballot of the electoral college.
