Himachal News: After two and a half years, the Himachal Pradesh government has finally appointed the post of Chairman of the Women’s Commission. According to the notification issued by the Himachal government, Vidya Negi, a resident of Bahang village of Manali sub -division of Kullu district, has been appointed as the chairman of Himachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission. His tenure will be for the next three years from the date of appointment.

Vidya Negi currently holds the post of National Coordinator of All India Women’s Congress. She has been handling various responsibilities in the Congress organization for a long time.

The appointment of Vidya Negi active on social and women’s rights issues is being considered a positive step towards women empowerment.

Since the formation of Sukhu government in Himachal, the post of Women’s Commission was running vacant for two and a half years, due to which the work of the Women’s Commission was being affected. Important tasks like hearing of complaints in the Commission, investigation of cases related to women harassment and giving recommendations to the government were hanging in the balance. Now this appointment is expected to speed up the work of the Commission.

Vidya Negi has been appointed by the Governor under Himachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission Act, 1996 and Commission rules. Apart from the Women’s Commission, appointments are also expected in the vacant corporation boards.
