A Kabaddi competition held in the summer of 2023 in the Alvaston area of ​​Derby city of Britain turned into violence when a sudden clash broke out between two groups. Now the court has given a big verdict in this case and sent three people of Indian origin to jail. According to Derbyshire Police, on 19 December, Derby Crown Court sentenced the culprits.

This incident took place on Sunday evening, August 20, 2023, when a large number of people were present at the sports ground located at Elvaston Lane. The atmosphere suddenly became tense during the game and within no time a fight started between the two sides. Rumors spread that shots had been fired, which created panic there and people started running here and there.

The video footage that emerged during the police investigation clearly showed that the fight had taken a very violent turn. In the footage, Buta Singh was seen chasing people from the other group. He did not have any weapon in his hand at that time, but later the police recovered two big knives from his car. In the same footage, Damanjeet Singh and Rajvinder Takhar Singh were seen indulging in violence with sharp weapons. On the basis of this evidence, the police arrested all three and charged them with violent disturbance.

The court considered it a serious crime

During the hearing held in November, the jury convicted all three accused. The court acknowledged that such violence during sporting events is not only a threat to law and order but also puts the lives of common people at risk. After this, the punishment was announced on 19 December. Buta Singh was sentenced to four years in jail. He also pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. Damanjit Singh was sentenced to three years and four months in jail, while Rajwinder Takhar Singh was sentenced to three years and ten months.

Action taken against other accused also

Two other accused in this case were acquitted due to lack of evidence. Earlier, during the hearing held in the year 2024, seven other people related to the same case have already been sent to jail. Police say that this action has been taken after a long and thorough investigation.

Police’s strict message

Derbyshire Police said in its statement that the purpose of sporting events is mutual brotherhood and entertainment, but violence brings it into disrepute. The police said in clear words that such incidents in public places will not be tolerated under any circumstances and strict action will continue against the culprits.
