Who is Jiang Jueqin?
Jiang is a professor of philosophy and history in Beijing. After graduating from Yale College, he has spent much of his career working on education reform and curriculum development in China.
Apart from teaching, he spent most of his career working on education reform and curriculum development in China. Along with teaching, he has also gained online popularity through his YouTube project “Predictive History”. In his lectures he tries to predict global events by analyzing repeating patterns in history, geopolitical incentives and game theory.
The prediction that sparked debate on social media
In a widely shared lecture recorded in May 2024, Jiang argued that, if Trump returns to power, geopolitical pressures could push the US toward confrontation with Iran.
In the lecture, Jiang argued that Trump’s second presidential term could also increase the possibility of military conflict with Iran. He warned that such a conflict could prove disastrous for America.
Citing history, Jiang compared a potential US invasion of Iran to the Sicilian Campaign, when Athens launched a major military campaign that ultimately ended in disaster.
He argued that, because of Iran’s geographical location and population, any long-term occupation would prove very difficult.
What did Jiang tell the American TV show?
Jiang recently appeared on a news and opinion series called Breaking Points, where he expressed his fears about how this could all play out.
He told that, based on my analysis of the progress of the war, it seems to me that Iran has a much greater advantage than America. The reality is that there is an exhausting war between the US and Iran and the Iranians have been preparing for this conflict for the last 20 years.
He practiced it many times. The 12-day war took place last June, which gave the Iranians the opportunity to assess and analyze the attack capabilities of both the Israelis and Americans. They had a long time of eight months to fully prepare for this new attack.
