When many Indians come to work in Sweden, they dream to spend a long and permanent life there. This journey usually starts with work permits. Gradually, when they start living in Sweden and get mixed up in the culture there, their next step is to get a permanent residence (PR).
In the beginning, the process of PR may look a bit difficult, but if you know who is qualified for it, what are the necessary documents and what benefits it gives, then it becomes easy to understand and do everything.
The salary of the month should be so much
Since 17 June 2025, the Swedish government has tightened the terms of economic qualifications associated with the work permit. Now if you want to take a work permit or renew the already existing permit, then your month’s salary should be at least 80% of the average salary of Sweden. At present, this minimum wage limit is 29,680 sek per month (before tax), which is equal to about 2.76 lakh rupees in Indian rupees.
Benefits with permanent residence
Sweden has many advantages to having a permanent residence (PR). Like a work permit, there is no need to apply again every two years. The process of renewing the work permits repeatedly is not only taking time, but it can also affect your travel plans. If you have PR If it is, all this problem ends. Main conditions for living in Sweden
Let us know that there are many rules regarding PR in Sweden, in which you will have to get merit, stay on a valid work permit and work in Sweden.
1. For this you should have a 48 -month work permit (usually given as two 2 years permit).
2. In the last seven years, you will have to work at least 44 months in Sweden.
3. You should be eligible for work permit renewal, which means that you have to fulfill all employment conditions.
4. You have to prove that you can maintain yourself financially and meet housing requirements.
5. You should not have a criminal case and you can prove that you have lived a decent life in Sweden.
Applications for PR can be submitted 30 days before the end of your current permit. However, since 2022, the Swedish migration agency does not provide a bridge permit to meet the reduction in merit. If you do not meet the requirement of 48 months, then you may have to wait till your sixth year in Sweden before applying.
