BE (Bachelor of Engineering) and B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) both are undergraduate engineering courses, which are done after 12th. Lakhs of students across the country enroll in these courses every year. Both B.Tech and BE are four-year courses and have eight semesters. Generally, both the degrees are considered equal and their recognition is almost equal in government and private jobs, but there is a slight difference between the two in the method of study and focus area.
What is the specialty of BE course?
In BE course, more emphasis is given on theoretical knowledge. Under this course, students are taught the basic principles, concepts and formulas of engineering in depth. This is the reason why BE course is considered better for those students who later plan to do research, teaching or higher education like MTech and PhD.
Who is B.Tech course better for?
B.Tech course is more practical and industry oriented. In this, special attention is given to lab work, projects, internships and actual use of technology. The objective of this course is to prepare the students for the industry during their studies. For students who are interested in technology, machines, software and field work, B.Tech proves to be a better option.

It is often seen that BE degree is offered in traditional universities and their affiliated colleges, whereas B.Tech course is more prevalent in IIT, NIT, IIIT and other technical institutes. However, now this difference has reduced to a great extent and many institutions offer both the degrees.
Is there a difference between career and salary?
There is no big difference between BE and B.Tech in terms of career and salary. Both degrees are equally recognized in government jobs, PSUs and private companies. Companies give more importance to a candidate’s skills, project experience and technical knowledge than degree.

Both BE and B.Tech are good engineering courses. If you are interested in theory and research then BE can be a better option, whereas if you want practical and technology based studies then B.Tech will be more suitable for you. Choosing the right course can give a better direction to your future.
