Waqf amendment bill 2025: After more than 12 hours of discussion in the Lok Sabha, the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed. During the voting, the amendments proposed by the opposition MPs were rejected. 272 votes were needed to pass this bill, while 288 MPs voted in its favor and 232 MPs protested. Earlier, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha on 2 April 2025 on Wednesday.
During the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill, AIMIM President and MP from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi opposed it. During this, he tore a copy of the draft. In protest against this bill, those black strips were also seen tied. Pakistani journalist Arju Kazmi questioned Indian journalist Aditi Tyagi on her YouTube channel.
Aditi Tyagi said this about Owaisi
Pakistani journalist Arju Kazmi questioned Indian journalist Aditi Tyagi on her YouTube channel, “The Muslim people here, especially Owaisi and their people, are opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill by tying the black band. The Waqf Board is also being opposed by the Waqf Board. What is happening?”
While answering his question, Aditi Tyagi asked him and said, do you have Waqf Board? Responding to this question, Arju Kazmi said that we do not have any such system here, it is known as Aukaf, but it is not like your Waqf Board. To this Aditi said, “The question I asked you was to explain this whole matter from a different perspective. If you mentioned Owaisi Saheb, I want to tell your audience that Owaisi Saheb seems to be quite in the media. But I assess a leader with his ground impact and public support. As far as his political situation is concerned, Owaisi Saheb’s party can only be in the Lok Sabha. They are the people.
Owaisi had targeted the center
Owaisi had said in his speech that this bill is a conspiracy to end religious and social institutions of Muslims. He said that the religious properties of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain communities have got legal protection, but through this bill, the government wants to seize the assets of Muslim Waqf.
Owaisi further said that the provisions of this bill snatched the administrative control from the Waqf Board and handed it over to the government. With this, the Waqf Board will not be able to protect the interests of Muslim society. He argued that this bill violates Article 14 (right to equality) of the Constitution. Because the properties of other religious communities have been given protection, but plans are being made to take the assets of Muslims under government control.
