Waqf amendment bill 2025: The Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (April 02, 2025). It was presented by Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. During this, speaking on behalf of the opposition, Samajwadi Party President and MP Akhilesh Yadav said that I do not even understand English and do not understand in Hindi.

The SP MP said, “The Speaker can say so much on the bill that has been presented today, the Hon’ble Minister said that this is an expectation. It is expected how this hope did not understand even in English that it is not expected that it is expected and in Hindi too, it is not understood that it is expected.”

What was Akhilesh Yadav mentioning?

In fact, the government will know the Waqf (Amendment) Bill known as UMED (Unified Management Empowerment Efficiency and Development). Akhilesh Yadav was referring to this hope. The Expectation Act offers measures to improve the administration of Waqf properties, to ensure better monitoring and accountability. It emphasizes the rights of women, which provides for inclusion of Muslim women in Waqf boards.

Political atmosphere hot on Waqf

The political atmosphere regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill is hot. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is calling it a step towards the rights and transparency of the poor, the opposition and some Muslim organizations are calling it a conspiracy against the Muslim community.

Maulana Khalid Rashid Frangi, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, strongly opposed the bill. He said, this bill is a completely religious matter. The amendments proposed in this are against Muslim interests. He appealed to the MPs to take care of the sentiments of the Muslim community. This has increased concern among Muslims. 90 percent of Waqf properties are of mosques, dargahs and cemeteries. Their protection is our responsibility.
