Bangladesh’s legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan himself has admitted that he was deliberately bowling with an illegal action. This case is of the year 2024, when he was playing for Surrey club in county cricket, then questions were raised on his bowling action. After that he was banned from participating in any match or tournament organized by the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board).
In the year 2024, a county match was being played between Surrey and Somerset. Shakib Al Hasan, who took time out from the busy international cricket schedule and came to play county cricket, bowled 63.2 overs in both the innings of this county match. In the investigation conducted in December 2024, his action was found illegal. ECB had banned him, while according to ICC rules, along with this, he was also banned from playing international cricket.

Beard admitted on the Before Wicket podcast that fatigue played a major role in making his action illegal. He said, “I think I was doing it deliberately, because I had bowled more than 70 (63) overs in a match. I have never bowled so many overs in a Test match in my career. I was coming from playing a Test series in Pakistan before that, and then came straight to play a county match. I was tired.”
Shakib Al Hasan respected the decision of the umpires to remove him. He also said that warning could have been given earlier. He also said, “It is written in the rules, so they had the right to expel me. So I did not complain.”
Shakib had also failed in the first test in UK and the second in Chennai. After that Shakib went back to Surrey and practiced on action with the coaches there. Shakib told that after 2 training sessions his bowling action had become fine.
