The global roadshow of Pakistan Super League (PSL) was organized at the prestigious Lord’s in London. However, this show organized for the promotion of PSL made headlines for some other reason. Veteran bowler Wasim Akram, who was present on the stage, suddenly took a humorous dig at the Indian Premier League (IPL). That too in the presence of Babar Azam, Mohsin Naqvi and many current players.
Comment on IPL amid promotion of PSL
PCB organized two big sessions before the 2026 season. The first session included PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Wasim Akram, Rameez Raja and PSL CEO. In the second part, Babar Azam, Haris Rauf and other star players came on stage. Meanwhile, Akram laughingly said that IPL lasts so long that “children grow up, the league never ends.” He compared the calendar of IPL which lasts for more than two months with the compact format of PSL which lasts for about 35-40 days.
‘Small leagues are better’
Akram claimed that foreign players also prefer short-term leagues because long-term availability is difficult for them. He said, “35-40 days are perfect for everyone. More than this, everyone gets bored, including me!” Giving the example of Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), he said that BBL was also long in the beginning, but later it was condensed in less time. Because both the spectators and the players were being affected.
PSL bowlers are much better
Akram made another claim that foreign players praise the level of bowling in PSL. According to him, PSL is about “quality, not quantity.” He said that many international players consider PSL to be number 1 in terms of bowling talent. However, he also admitted that IPL is still the number-1 league in the world in terms of popularity and business. He placed PSL at “second place”, but said that the league can reach a bigger level in the future.
PCB Chairman’s vision
Mohsin Naqvi said in the roadshow that the target has been set to make PSL the biggest league in the world. Rameez Raja described PSL as a “career-changing platform” for young Pakistani players. This roadshow of PSL was very successful at the global level.
