What is shelf cloud?
Now know what is the shelf cloud? The shelf cloud is a horizontal and nail -shaped cloud, which is formed on the leading edge of the storm. This is formed when the cold and dense air emanating from the storm pushes the hot, moist air upwards, causing condensation and cloud to form.
This cloud brings heavy rain, strong winds and electricity along with the storm. Although it is not a tornado itself, it indicates serious seasonal conditions. The shelf cloud seen in Bovi was so huge and scary that it made the sky dark and an atmosphere of night was created during the day itself.
