T20 World Cup 2026 has started. According to the schedule on the first day, there were to be 3 league matches of the tournament, in which the second match was played between West Indies and Scotland. In this match, West Indies’ star batsman Shimrom Hetmyer surprised everyone by scoring the fastest fifty. Now he took perhaps the best catch of the T20 World Cup in only the second match of the tournament.
The video of Hetmyer’s catch is becoming increasingly viral on social media. It can be seen in the video that Scotland opener George Munsey swung the bat hard towards the leg side on the ball of Shamar Joseph. At first glance it seemed that the ball would go straight to the boundary line for a six, but before that Hetmyer entered and he surprised everyone with an excellent catch.
‘Catch of the Tournament’
You can also call this catch ‘Catch of the Tournament’. It can be seen in the video that Hetmyer took the catch while making a spectacular dive. His catch was clearly visible. After taking the catch, his teammates celebrated with him. Shamar Joseph took him in his lap. After this, Jason Holder also lifted Hetmyer in joy.

Fastest half-century for West Indies in T20 World Cup
Before taking the brilliant catch, Hetmyer had broken Chris Gayle’s record by scoring the fastest half-century in the T20 World Cup for West Indies. Hetmyer completed his fifty in just 22 balls. Earlier, in the 2009 T20 World Cup, Chris Gayle had scored a half-century in 23 balls. Shai Hope, present in this list, had completed fifty in 24 balls in the last season i.e. 2024 T20 World Cup.
However, it is worth noting that the record of scoring the fastest half-century for West Indies in T20 International is in the name of Chris Gayle. Gayle completed his half-century in just 17 balls against South Africa in 2015.
