Sangam city Prayagraj is currently struggling with the floods of Ganga and Yamuna rivers. On Saturday, the water level of both rivers crossed the danger mark 84.734 meters. By Sunday afternoon, this level was recorded about one meter above.
The water of Ganga and Yamuna is no longer limited to the low -lying areas, but has also engulfed many residential colonies.
People in areas like Rajapur, Chhota Baghada, Ganganagar are forced to get out of their homes. Some people are going towards safe places on foot, some boats.
Local people say that the current situation has reminded them of the horrific flood of 1978, when the water level reached 88 meters.
At the same time, in 2013, water level was recorded up to 86 meters, due to which the city was badly affected.
In view of the situation, the teams of NDRF and SDRF have been active in flood affected areas for the last three days. Till now thousands of people have been transported to safe places.
The district administration has set up control rooms and relief camps in flood -prone areas. Food, drinking water and medicines have been arranged in these camps.
The colony of Ganganagar is flooded inside the houses. People had to leave their home after covering their essential items. Many families are now taking shelter in relatives or government camps.
According to the irrigation department, the trend in the water level is currently underway. In such a situation, the administration has kept all the concerned departments on alert mode and is constantly monitoring the situation.
