Weather Change Tips: In the changing weather, even a little carelessness is taking a toll, learn from the doctor how to take care of yourself.

As the winter season is approaching, its impact on people’s health is becoming clearly visible. The game of cold in the morning and evening and mild sunlight sometimes during the day is weakening the body’s immunity. Due to this, the number of patients suffering from viral fever, cold, cough, sore throat and pain all over the body is increasing rapidly in hospitals. Especially children and the elderly are suffering the most in this season, because their immunity is already weak.

Rapid increase in patients in hospitals

If we look at recent reports, in the first fortnight of November 2025 itself, cases of viral infection in big hospitals of North India have increased by 30-40 percent. In cities like Delhi-NCR, Lucknow and Kanpur, hundreds of patients are reaching OPD every day with complaints of fever and cough. According to doctors, this time the viral form is slightly different. Earlier the fever used to go down in 2-3 days, now even after recovery, problems like dry cough, throat irritation, weakness and fatigue are troubling us for a long time. Many patients are coming to the hospital again after a week of recovery from mild fever due to sudden severe attacks of cough.

Why is the problem increasing?

According to doctors, this time along with Influenza A and B viruses, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is also active. Cases of bronchiolitis due to RSV have increased in children, while the risk of pneumonia is higher in the elderly. In the latest advisory of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), it has been said that with the change in weather, the level of pollution is also increasing, which is making the virus more dangerous. The air quality index in Delhi has crossed 300, due to which breathing problems are doubling.

Doctor told the methods of prevention

According to Dr. Arpita Kulshrestha, Senior Consultant, Medanta Hospital, Noida, people think that it is a mild fever and it will get cured on its own. This small carelessness turns into a big problem. During viral infection, the body needs complete rest. Leaving medicines midway, staying awake all night, eating fried food from outside and not protecting yourself from cold, all these invite you to fall ill again. This time many patients are experiencing Covid-like post-viral fatigue, which lasts for weeks. In such a situation, be cautious from the beginning.

Keep these things in mind

According to Dr. Kulshrestha, if the fever is above 101 degrees and there is blood in the sputum along with cough or there is difficulty in breathing, then consult a doctor immediately. If children are breathing rapidly or have stopped eating and drinking, then do not wait at all. There is very little need for antibiotics in this season, because most of the cases are viral. Taking wrong medicine increases bacterial resistance, which can later cause major diseases. Make sure to wear masks before sending children to school. Keep hand sanitizer at home and wash hands frequently. Wear warm clothes to protect yourself from cold air, but do not allow too much heat, otherwise you will catch cold again if you sweat.

You will get benefit by trying these remedies

Add turmeric and salt in hot water and gargle. Drink ginger tea. Take basil decoction with honey, but these cannot replace medicines. If symptoms persist for more than 3-4 days, stop self-medication. Deficiency of Vitamin C and D also reduces immunity, hence take orange, amla, curd and sunlight.
