Middle East Tensions: Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, global politics regarding the energy market has also intensified. Recently Donald Trump had said that if oil prices rise then let them rise, his priority at the moment is war. Meanwhile, an important statement has also come out from India’s side, which has further intensified this debate. In fact, the crisis in the Middle East has deepened after the joint attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran. Its impact is clearly visible on the global oil market as well. On Monday, S. Jaishankar presented the government’s side in the Rajya Sabha on this issue.
What did Jaishankar say on energy crisis?
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that West Asia is a very important region for India’s energy needs and there has been a large supply of oil and gas from here for a long time. In such a situation, if supply is disrupted or uncertainty increases, then it is a matter of serious concern. He said that in the current situation, the priority of the Government of India is to ensure energy security, so that its negative impact on the citizens of the country is minimal.
The government is making continuous efforts to balance the availability and cost of oil and gas despite increasing risks in the energy market. Appealing for peace, the Foreign Minister appealed to all parties to find a solution to this crisis through dialogue. He said that dialogue is the best way to end the deadlock, maintain patience and ensure the safety of citizens.
Situation becomes serious due to increased geopolitical tension
He told that India had expressed concern on this issue earlier also. On February 20, India had appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and reduce tension. Jaishankar also said that the current geopolitical situation has become more serious than before and this conflict is also affecting the surrounding countries. On this issue, opposition MPs have demanded a detailed discussion in Rajya Sabha under Rule 176 on energy security and safety of Indian citizens.
