Mamata bnerjee on obc: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday (10 June 2025) targeted the central government for deciding the status of OBC in the state assembly and the Pahalgam terror attack. He said that the decision to include any person in the OBC category should not be taken on the basis of religion.
‘The only criteria for fixing OBC status backwardness’
CM Mamta Banerjee said that the only criteria for people to decide the status of Other Backward Classes (OBC) is backwardness. He said, “The only criteria is the only criteria to decide the status of OBC in the state. A commission constituted by the government is surveying 50 new subclasses to include it in this category.”
The Chief Minister said that 49 subclasses have been included under OBC-A categories and 91 subclasses under OBC-B categories. He said that people of more backward classes have been included under OBC-A, while less backward people come under OBC-B.
Mamta spoke on the report of West Bengal Backward Classes Commission
The Chief Minister addressed the House after the annual report of West Bengal Backward Classes Commission for the financial year 2024-25 on the floor of the House. CM Mamta Banerjee said that the work of registering under the OBC category has been done on the basis of comprehensive field surveys and recommendations of the Commission appointed for identification of such people.
Targeting the Center for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, CM Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP -led central government should be removed from power, as it has failed to provide security to the people of the country. He asked, “Why was there no security force or police personnel present at the scene at the time of the terrorist attack?”
The CM of West Bengal said, “We do not support terrorism, there is no religion, caste or creed.” He has demanded that the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack should be brought into the dock of justice.
