West indies cricket: West Indies cricket is once again uproar. The team’s star batsman and wicketkeeper Nicholas Puran suddenly announced his retirement from international cricket at just 29 years old. Puran has taken this decision just 8 months before the T20 World Cup 2025, which surprised both the fans and the team. In the midst of all this, a big statement of the team’s head coach Darren Sammy has come out, which has exposed the future challenges of West Indies cricket.
Darren Sammy said that this decision of Puran is just a beginning. He warned that in the coming time, more West Indies players can retire from international cricket suddenly. Sammy said during a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, “My conscience was saying that something like this is going to happen. I had already interacted with Puran and his agent and we started making the team’s strategy without them.”
Sammy was definitely a emotional about Puran’s retirement, but he also accepted this decision from the commercial angle. He said, “I would always like to keep a player like Puran in the team, but I cannot decide a player’s career. Puran congratulated the team, and we have also wished him for his future.”
More players can retire
Darren Sammy has won the West Indies twice in 2012 and 2016. He said that in today’s time, players have left international cricket and have more inclination towards the franchise leagues and this is a very common thing. He believes, “Now T20 cricket has become so famous that players decide to retire from international cricket at the beginning of their career. I am confident that more West Indies players will do this in the coming days.”
