In January this year, the highest profitable film at the box office is not from Bollywood or South but from regional cinema. Made in a very small budget, this film has given a profit of about 600% to the makers.

Ormax Media’s January box office report has come out. A list of the 10 highest grossing films has been released in the report. In this, Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’ is at number one, while a film present at tenth place has caught everyone’s attention. Actually, 9 films in the list are from Bollywood and South, while this 10th film is from Marathi cinema.

Even though ‘Border 2’ was the most talked about in January, it emerged as a big film in terms of earnings. The makers of ‘Border 2’ have been able to get only about 30% profit so far. But, in terms of profit, this Marathi film went ahead of all the other films including ‘Border 2’.

This film is ‘Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madhyam’. Released in theaters on January 1, 2026, the film became a blockbuster on the basis of strong word-of-mouth.

The story of the film revolves around a Marathi-medium school, which a corrupt leader wants to demolish and build an international school. The school principal calls his old students and together they fight to save their mother tongue and identity.

The film stars Sachin Khedekar, Amey Wagh, Siddharth Chandekar, Kshiti Jog and Prajakta Koli in lead roles.

‘Krantijyoti Vidyalaya Marathi Medium’ got an opening of 78 lakhs on the first day. The film earned good earnings over the weekend due to word of mouth. The film recovered its budget in the first week itself. This film earned Rs 11.40 crore in 11 days. The film had earned Rs 23 crore in the third week itself.

According to reports, the budget of the film was around Rs 4 crore, while it earned around Rs 28-30 crore at the box office. According to Sacknik, the India gross collection of this film is 28.65 crores.

If we compare the budget and earnings, the film gave more than 600% profit to the makers.

The film received positive reviews and the audience also liked it. The audience says that the issue of Marathi schools has been shown in an emotional manner and the actors have also acted naturally.

Even after 50 days of its release, this film is still running in theatres. After the success of the film, the makers have also announced the sequel of this film.
