A Bangladesh court has issued a new arrest warrant against 18 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Syima Vajed Putul. This action has been taken due to allegations of corruption in plot allocation in Purvanchal New Town Project.
Senior Special Judge Zakir Hussain of Dhaka City gave this order on Thursday. Taking cognizance of the Chargesheet of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), he issued this warrant and directed to report the progress of arrest by 5 May.
Apart from this, in another case also a charge sheet has been filed against a total of 23 people including Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and other four members of the family for corruption in plot allocation.
It is noteworthy that a total of six cases have been registered against Sheikh Hasina so far, in which all are related to disturbances in the Purvanchal project. Last month too, a tribunal issued an arrest warrant against five people, including Sheikh Hasina and former police chief Benazir Ahmed, in the case of alleged massacre on Shapla Chhatar in 2013.
Political experts believe that all these actions are being done in the spirit of political revenge of the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus. After eviction from Hasina’s power in August 2024, many cases have been registered against her and her supporters.
Sheikh Hasina, who is taking shelter in India, while addressing her supporters in February, said that the Yunus government has made the country a base of terrorism and anarchy. She promised that she would return to the country and provide justice to all the victims.
Sheikh Hasina said, "Yunus himself has admitted that he does not have the experience of running the government. They are finishing the investigation committees and giving open exemption to the terrorists, but we will put these killers in the dock of law." They said, "I will return, and there will be justice on the land of Bangladesh."
