How does budget preparation begin?
The work of making the Union Budget begins about 4 months before the presentation of the Budget. The responsibility of this entire process rests with the Budget Division of the Department of Economic Affairs under the Finance Ministry.
This division seeks details of plans and needs for the next financial year from all ministries. After reviewing these demands, the government decides how much budget will be given to which ministry.
Opinion of economy and industries is taken
In the process of making the Union Budget, the government takes the opinion of the general public along with the opinion of heads of various industries, economists, people from trade unions and representatives of farmers’ groups. Major industry chambers of the country also inform the Finance Ministry about their expectations related to the budget.
The government reviews all these expectations. Once the entire budget outline is prepared, the Finance Minister informs the Prime Minister of the country about it. The Union Budget is finalized after getting the approval of the Prime Minister.
General budget will be presented on 1 February
Since February 1st was a Sunday, people were doubtful whether this year’s budget would be presented on February 1st only? However, the government has put an end to these doubts and fixed the date of the budget. This year’s Union Budget is going to be presented on 1st February.
