According to Delhi Government, accounts of 40,642 girls have been registered under Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. A total amount of Rs 100 crore will be sent directly to their bank accounts. This amount is the amount deposited along with interest which was deposited at different stages of studies. How did Ladli Yojana become Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana?

The objective of the Laadli scheme, which was started in 2008, was to ensure that the education of daughters is not left behind. Under this, a fixed amount was deposited at the time of birth and then installments were paid in classes 1, 6, 9, 10 and 12. This amount could be withdrawn on completion of 18 years of age. Now this scheme has been expanded and prepared as Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. Under the new arrangements, a total of Rs 56,000 will be deposited in the daughters’ accounts. After adding interest, this amount is expected to be more than Rs 1 lakh by the age of 21 years. At the same time, let us tell you that under this scheme, the mature amount will be given to the daughters only when the daughters take admission in or complete graduation or any recognized professional diploma.

Who will get the benefit of this scheme?

The benefit of this scheme will be available to those families whose annual income is less than Rs 1.20 lakh and who have been living in Delhi for the last 3 years. To avail the benefit of the scheme, it is necessary for the daughter to be born in Delhi. Only a maximum of two daughters from a family will come under the scope of this scheme. Whereas registration can be done within 1 year of birth or at prescribed educational stages. Apart from this, it will be mandatory to fulfill the conditions related to higher education.
