Board of Peace: US President Donald Trump has invited India to be a part of the ‘Board of Peace’ being formed for Gaza. The ‘Board of Peace’ is an important part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas brokered by America. The responsibility of this board will be to monitor reconstruction, governance, investment and capital raising in Gaza.
What is ‘Board of Peace’?
According to Reuters report, the board will be chaired by US President Donald Trump himself. Initially this organization will focus on the Gaza conflict, but later it will be expanded to deal with other global conflicts as well. This information has been given quoting the American letter and draft charter. If India accepts this invitation, it will become part of the board for a tenure of three years like other member countries.
According to reports, if a country wants to continue its membership of the board even after three years, it will have to contribute $1 billion (approximately ₹8,300 crore). In return, that country will get permanent membership of the board. This amount will be used for the activities and operations of the board. At present, no financial contribution will be required for the first three years of membership.
What will happen next in Gaza?
According to AP report, the board member countries will monitor the next steps in Gaza under the second phase of Trump’s ceasefire proposal. This stage includes:
- Formation of a new Palestinian committee in Gaza
- deployment of an international security force
- Disarmament of Hamas
- Reconstruction and resettlement of Gaza
- Countries included will be ‘founding members’
In a letter sent by Trump to leaders around the world, it has been said that the countries included in this board will be its founding members and they will initiate a bold and new approach to resolving global conflicts.
World Bank chief Ajay Banga also joins the board
Indian-origin Ajay Banga, who is currently the President of the World Bank, has also been included in the ‘Board of Peace’. He will be among the technocrats who will be at the center of the 20-point roadmap presented by President Trump.
US Ambassador to India shared letter on
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore shared this invitation letter sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media platform X. He wrote, “I am honored to extend the invitation of the President (POTUS) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the Board of Peace. This Board will work towards bringing lasting peace in Gaza and support effective governance for stability and prosperity.”
