What to wear and what not to wear in UPSC interview? This advice of Divyakirti Sir will make your life

Cracking UPSC Prelims and Mains is a big victory for any candidate. This is often called ‘winning half the battle’. But the real battle is still UPSC interview. Even a small mistake here can put a halt to the dream of becoming an IAS-IPS for some time. Therefore, in this period, every step has to be taken very thoughtfully. Many candidates perform well till Mains but a simple mistake in dress or body language in the interview makes their entire journey start again.

UPSC interview is not just a test of your answers. This is also to understand your personality, confidence, discipline, presentation and thinking. This is why the panel keeps a very close eye on every small detail of the candidates – clothes, sitting style, style of speaking, even the color of your shoes and socks.

In this sensitive phase, candidates often rely on the suggestions of their favorite mentor and founder of Drishti IAS, Vikas Divyakirti Sir. Many of his videos going viral on social media help a lot in interview preparation. In one of these videos, he has told very useful things regarding interview dress, which every candidate should know.

Why is clothing so important in an interview?

UPSC is one of the most prestigious examinations in the country. From here the country gets officers like IAS, IPS and IFS. Therefore, UPSC interview is not just a formality, but a stage where the entire image of the candidate is judged.

Dress is the first introduction to your thinking and professional behavior. If your attire is neat, balanced and professional, it shows your seriousness and preparation. This is why as soon as you enter the interview room, the panel notices everything from your clothes to your gait and the way you sit.

What to wear and what not to wear in an interview

Vikas Sir says that simplicity and cleanliness regarding clothes are most important in interviews. No heavy styling or colors needed. Some small rules can further improve your image in the interview.

They say that the tie should be exactly in the centre. Even if it is slightly crooked, it looks bad. Be sure to check yourself in the mirror before the interview. While entering the interview room, one should sit with the coat buttons unbuttoned. This is considered a normal method and is also comfortable. His advice regarding pocket flaps is also that the flaps should not be outside. Place them on the inside. Flaps sticking out spoil the professional look.

color of socks

Often candidates pay full attention to coat and shoes, but do not pay attention to socks. Divyakirti sir clearly says that the color of the socks also complements the dress, hence it is important to choose the right color. If you’re wearing navy blue coat-pants (which is the most common interview attire), wear black socks with it.
