After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli suddenly retired from Test cricket, the speculation intensified whether both the star players would be part of the World Cup team in 2027 or not. Now the Indian Cricket Board has given a statement on this and has made the picture clear. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla has said that both players are available for the World Cup to be held in 2027.

Rohit Sharma announced retirement from the Test on May 7, 2025, in which he told that he will continue to play in ODI format. Virat Kohli also recently said that he wants to play till 2027 World Cup. The ODI career of these two veterans, which has already retired before T20, is also being discussed a lot.
Speaking to reporters in London, BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla said that both Rohit and Virat are available to play ODIs. He said, “We all also lack Rohit and Virat. But the decision to retire was his own.”

Rajiv Shukla said BCCI, “It is the policy of BCCI that we never say to a player from which format should be retired. It depends completely on the player. The decision to retire from the test was taken by both these players themselves.”
