Charger and pen drive work separately
First of all, it is important to understand that the work of mobile charger and pen drive is completely different. The function of the charger is only to supply electricity whereas the pen drive is made to store and transfer data. A pen drive works only when it is connected to a device that can read and write data such as a computer, laptop or smartphone (via OTG).
What will happen if you plug the pen drive into the charger?
If you plug a pen drive into the USB port of a mobile charger, there will be no major explosion. In most cases nothing happens. Chargers are not made for data transfer, so they cannot recognize the pen drive. Neither the charger harms the pen drive nor the pen drive charger.
Can the phone or pen drive burn?
Generally this does not happen. The charger only provides electricity and the pen drive can take electricity but without the control circuit it will not do anything. If the charger is of poor quality or is local, then in very rare cases problems like overheating may occur, but it is almost impossible for it to cause data loss or fire.
How justified is the fear of data flying?
The data stored in a pen drive remains safe until it is connected to any device that can access that data. This is not possible with the charger. That means, by plugging the pen drive in the charger, the files will neither be deleted nor corrupted.
What is the correct way?
If you want to use a pen drive, then always plug it into a computer, laptop or smartphone with OTG support. Use the charger’s USB port for charging only. Plugging a pen drive into the charger neither causes any explosion nor does your data get lost.
