Dr. Manu Bora, orthopedic and arthroscopy expert from Gurugram, Haryana, gave a different view on this in a social media post he shared. They say that regular and excessive consumption of wheat, especially for people who are conscious about their weight and metabolic health, may pose hidden risks. According to Dr. Bora, “If there is one worst thing in the diet, it can be wheat. Most of the people do not eat sweets daily, some do not eat them at all. Even the consumption of sugar does not become a problem for everyone equally. But for those who regularly consume wheat in their daily diet, it can be harmful for them. In ancient times, humans did not consume wheat naturally.”
Why is it not beneficial for health?
Their logic is that even the things which we consider normal and safe can have adverse effects on the body if taken excessively. Especially in today’s time when wheat is often used in processed or refined form, its effects can increase even further. Dr. Bora explains that products made from highly processed wheat can promote problems like inflammation, weight gain and metabolic disturbances in the body. When these are consumed in large quantities and regularly, they can gradually affect health. This is why they emphasize balance and restraint.
Should bread not be eaten?
This does not mean that bread should be given up completely, but it is important to understand that both quantity and quality matter. Choosing whole grains, consuming them in limited quantities and adopting a balanced diet may be a wiser step. According to him, the food items included in the daily plate should also be chosen wisely instead of eating without thinking. A healthy diet depends not only on what you are eating, but also on how much and in what form you are eating it.
