Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke on telephone with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (March 21, 2026). During this, both the leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments, especially the context of the ongoing US-Iran military actions against Iran.
What did President Pezeshkian say in his conversation with PM Modi?
President Pezeshkian explained the various aspects of these attacks, illegal actions and crimes, stressing that Iran did not start this war. He said that the attackers had launched military attacks on Iran without any valid reason, logic or legal basis during the ongoing nuclear negotiations.
He said that the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution, senior military commanders and many innocent civilians, including innocent school children, were also killed in these attacks. Apart from this, the attacks have also caused considerable damage to Iran’s infrastructure. America had targeted a school in Minab from its military bases located in neighboring countries, in which 168 innocent school children were killed.
If war is to end, US-Israel should stop attacks: Pezeshkian
Pejeshkian reiterated that Iran is always ready to talk by phone or face-to-face with world leaders to ensure monitoring and verification of its peaceful nuclear program. He also proposed to create a regional security framework with the countries of West Asia, whose objective would be to establish peace and stability through cooperation without external interference.

He said that the first condition for ending war and conflict in the region is that America and Israel immediately stop their aggression and also guarantee that such incidents do not recur in the future. While referring to India’s rotational chairmanship of BRICS, Pezeshkian appealed to the grouping to play an independent role in deterring aggression against Iran and safeguarding regional and international peace and stability.
What did PM Modi say to President Pezeshkian?
Expressing deep concern over the increasing tension and conflict in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned any attack on energy-related infrastructure in the region. He said that such steps pose a serious threat to global food and energy security as well as agricultural exports around the world.
They also stressed the importance of ensuring the continued security of the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf. Along with this, PM Modi stressed that choosing the path of war is not in anyone’s interest, hence all parties should move towards peace as soon as possible.
