Today Aamir Khan is known as Mr. Perfectionist in Bollywood and he is counted among the biggest actors of the industry. But very few people know that in the beginning of his career he also worked behind the scenes. Aamir worked as an assistant director in the 1985 film ‘Jabardasth’. Big actors like Sanjeev Kumar, Sunny Deol and Amrish Puri were seen in this film.
This film was directed by Aamir’s uncle Nasir Hussain. Aamir was working with him as an assistant director. Amrish Puri was very enraged by one of Aamir’s words on the set and he scolded Aamir in front of him. Aamir himself had narrated this story once.
Amrish Puri was angry at this behavior of Aamir Khan
Aamir had said in an interview given to Lallantop, ‘I was very fast in continuity. There was a shot of his (Amrish Puri) in which he was forgetting his continuity. His hand had to remain on the telephone. He was forgetting both his lines and continuity. He was getting irritated, it happens sometimes. He was rehearsing and after the rehearsal I told him to hand over the phone. So he said- Yes yes.

Aamir further told that this happened three-four times. He was repeatedly forgetting to put his hand on the telephone and was also forgetting the line, due to which he was getting irritated. When Aamir reminded him for the fourth time to keep his hands on the phone, Amrish Puri got angry and said angrily, ‘Yes, I know. Your hand is on the phone, you are speaking again and again.
Aamir said, ‘Amrish ji’s voice was like a motorcycle. His voice was very heavy. When he scolded me so loudly, there was silence on the entire set. And everyone’s eyes are on me. It was a very strong scolding. I felt very bad, I was also angry that on one hand I was doing my job and telling the right thing. Still getting scolded. No one said anything on the set for 5-6 seconds.
Amrish Puri later apologized
Aamir told that the film’s director Nasir Hussain did not want to disturb his actor and he also did not want someone to scold his assistant without any mistake, but he could not tell Amrish about this directly. Then he said, ‘What is it Amrish ji? I told my assistant that no matter how much the actor scolds him, he should keep doing his work. Then Amrish ji said no, no sorry son.
