Many Bollywood actresses have been very good friends in real life. At times, some actresses do not shy away from betraying even their friends for the sake of films. It is said that Rekha had betrayed one of her close friends for the sake of the film. You will be surprised to know this story.
Rekha had betrayed her best friend
Actually we are talking about Rekha and Aruna Irani. This was the period of 1981, Rekha and Aruna Irani had worked together in many films and then they became a deep friendship. Both of them had also signed a film Mangalsutra. But Aruna was shocked by what happened because of this film. Let us tell you that while talking to Shosha, Aruna said, “Initially Rekha and I were cast in Mangalsutra. But the strange thing is, they never contacted me again. I read in the newspapers that the shooting has started, yet I had no idea. Eventually, I read that I have been replaced. No one even informed me.”
After the release of the film, Aruna Irani talked to director Vijay about it. Aruna told, “I asked him, ‘Why did you replace me? You never came to me with dates. I was completely free. I fought with him.’ Then he told me, ‘Actually, the problem was that Rekha did not want you in the film.’ I was surprised. I immediately avoided the conversation. I said, ‘Don’t joke. She is a very good friend. Why would she do this?’ He replied, ‘She’s your friend, why don’t you ask her?'”
Why did Rekha get Aruna Irani out of the film?
Aruna Irani said that later she spoke directly to Rekha. During the debate, Rekha admitted that she had requested the makers to replace the old actress. What he revealed while explaining the reason for this was surprising. Rekha told that actually the role that was offered to Aruna was quite powerful and if she had done it emotionally, Rekha’s character would have looked like a vamp.
Aruna Irani was eventually replaced by Prema Narayan, who was known for vamp characters and doing dance numbers. Anant Nag was also in the film, whose soul takes possession of Prema’s character. Despite its interesting story, 1981’s Mangalsutra did not perform well at the box office.
