There may be a small change in the schedule of the Indian cricket team for the year 2026. This year, Team India has to go on a tour of New Zealand, where there is news of change in the number of matches of the ODI series to be played. Currently, 2 Test, 3 ODI and 5 T20 matches are to be held on this tour, but it is being told that the number of 3 ODI matches to be held between India and New Zealand can be increased to 5.

New Zealand Cricket Board made special demand

According to media reports, the New Zealand Cricket Board has made a special demand to the BCCI that the number of matches in the ODI series should be increased from 3 to 5. The reason behind this demand is said to be Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, because both these cricketers now play only ODI matches. In view of the possibility of increased interest of fans towards ODI matches due to ROKO, there was a demand to change the schedule.

It is being told that New Zealand Cricket Board has sent a plan to BCCI regarding changing the schedule. The schedule of the Indian team’s tour of New Zealand is likely to be revealed in the next days or few weeks. This will be the first time in the last four years after November 2022 that Team India will tour New Zealand.

The Test series to be held on this tour will be part of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. If Team India wants to remain in the race for the finals, then it is going to need a win in this series. Since Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma now play only ODI format, any cricket board would like to take advantage of them. The brand value of both is tremendous and by increasing the number of matches in the series, everyone from broadcasters to organizers and other parties will also benefit.
