During the Second World War and Vietnam War, when there was a huge lack of medical resources, doctors made a unique experiment to save the lives of soldiers. Coconut water was offered to the veins of the injured soldiers when there was anemia.

This incident is still considered a unique example of medical history. Indeed, the injured soldiers used to immediately need blood during the war, but at that time there were not enough blood storage, blood bank and safe transfusion facilities.

In such a situation, the doctors started searching for the option and put the coconut water easily found in the tropical areas.

According to scientific research, coconut water is considered safe for placing veins, as its electrolyte balance and sterile nature matches the blood plasma of the human body.

This was the reason that it was also called Nature’s IV Drink. In the 1940s, coconut water was used as emergency transfusions in the Vietnam War, along with American and Japanese troops posted on the islands of the Pacific Ocean in the 1940s.

This proved to be a life -saving solution, especially when blood was not available nearby. However, it is also true that coconut water is not a permanent option of blood. Hence it was used only as a temporary solution.

Experts believe that the direct intravenus (IV) experiment of coconut water is not possible for a long time, but it has saved the lives of hundreds of soldiers in an emergency. A report published in the ‘American Journal of Emergency Medicine’ said that blood can act like plasma when the coconut water is poured into the veins.
