How Often Should You Change Your Bath Towel: Most of us do not wash home linens like sheets, pillow covers or towels as often as experts recommend. Often we think, it is clear now, it will go on for another day or two. But especially in the case of towels, this habit is not good in terms of hygiene. Research shows that towels need to be washed more regularly than we think. Let us tell you how often the towel should be changed.
What is the problem with this?
According to the report of Towelsupercenter, many people believe that after bathing or washing hands, the body becomes clean, hence the towel would also remain clean. The reality is a little different. When you wipe your wet body or hands with a towel, moisture, dead skin cells, oil and dirt get absorbed into the fibers. The towel absorbs water, but it takes hours to dry. This wet environment is absolutely suitable for the growth of micro-organisms like bacteria, fungus and yeast. These are not visible to the eye, but their number can increase over time and can increase the risk of problems like skin infection, acne or athlete’s foot.
When should you wash the towel?
The good thing is that it is not necessary to wash the towel after every use. According to experts, under normal circumstances, a bath towel should be washed after about 3 to 4 uses. Hand towels should be washed more often than this, because hands are wiped many times throughout the day. But in some situations, it is better to wash the towel only after using it once, like if someone in the house is sick, the towel is used in the gym, the towel has body fluids on it, or the person’s skin is very sensitive.
The place where the towel is kept is also important. If the bathroom is humid and not well ventilated and the towel does not dry properly, it should be washed quickly. The material also makes a difference. Microfiber dries quickly, while cotton towels retain more moisture and require regular washing. Bamboo towels are considered antibacterial, but it is important to wash them from time to time.
After how many days should it be changed?
According to expert Jenniferadams, it is generally recommended that bath towels be replaced every two to three years. It is considered appropriate to use them only for a maximum of five years. Due to continuous washing and normal use, the water absorbing capacity of the towel starts reducing. Also, they do not remain as soft as before. If you want your towels to remain good for a long time, reduce the use of fabric softener. The layer of softener accumulates on the cloth, which can reduce its absorbency.
