Galgotias University was established in the year 2011. Its founder is Sunil Galgotia. Sunil Galgotia started his career with a publication business. His family ran a bookshop in Connaught Place, New Delhi. In the year 1980, he started his own publication under the name Galgotia Publications. Initially he had taken a loan of about Rs 9000 to publish the book. Later he got the right to publish famous books for examinations related to studying abroad, due to which his business grew rapidly.
Moving forward in the field of education, he started Galgotia Institute of Management and Technology in the year 2000 with 40 students. Galgotia College of Engineering and Technology was also started in the same year. After the success of these institutions, the foundation of Galgotias University was laid in 2011. Today its campus is spread over 52 acres in Greater Noida.

1. Robot dog controversy at AI summit – The university displayed a robot dog during the India AI Impact Summit held in 2026. It was alleged that this robot was made by a Chinese company, but it was said to be developed by the university. After the matter came to light, criticism started on social media. The university clarified that a representative had given a wrong statement without properly understanding the technical information. 2. Political controversy of 2024 – During the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2024, some students were seen protesting outside the Congress headquarters in New Delhi.
