Even on the 25th day of the ongoing war in the Middle East, America and Israel are continuously bombing Iran. Israeli intelligence agency Mossad Chief David Barnia had told the Israeli cabinet how long it would take for the change of power in Tehran. David Barnia had said that a change of power in Tehran was possible, but it would take about a year instead of days or weeks.
According to the Jerusalem Post report, the Mossad chief presented suggestions to Israeli leaders a day before the war, estimating that regime change would take a year. David Barnia described the transition of power as easy and said that it would depend on many conditions, which is likely to take a lot of time.
What was Mossad’s planning regarding the change of power?
According to a New York Times report, Barnia told Netanyahu and senior Trump administration officials in January 2026 that within days of the start of the war, the Mossad could potentially help unify the Iranian opposition. This could lead to incidents of riots and rebellion, which could also lead to the fall of the government. However, the report also claimed that no such rebellion had taken place three weeks after the war began, and American-Israeli intelligence concluded that the Iranian government had been weakened but was still intact.
The first priority was to eliminate the top leadership
Mossad Chief David Barnia’s plan was to first achieve major military goals, which included eliminating the top leadership and damaging government institutions. This will make it easier to overthrow the current government of Iran. However, he also placed some conditions, due to which it may take time to achieve the target. Both Netanyahu and US President Trump initially indicated that military action would create conditions for regime change in Tehran, but both also said that this would have to be done by the Iranian people themselves.
