The country’s pride Tejas Light Combat Aircraft became victim of an accident during the demonstration at the Dubai Air Show on Friday. In this accident, the brave pilot of the Indian Air Force, Wing Commander Naman Syal, sacrificed his life. This is the second major accident of Tejas after joining the force in 2016. The accident has deeply shocked the entire country, especially the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, where Naman’s family lives.
Naman Syal was a resident of Patialkar village of Nagrota Bagwan tehsil of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Very disciplined and calm natured Naman had dreamed of serving the country from the beginning. He did his schooling from Sainik School, Sujanpur Tira, the same school which is known for producing many excellent officers for the Indian Army and Air Force. His age is said to be between 34 to 37 years. Since childhood, he was excellent in both studies and sports. During his school days, his focus was on joining the Indian Air Force. On 24 December 2009, he was commissioned in the Indian Air Force and from here his real flying started.

Experience of flying the best aircraft of the country: Naman Syal had flown not only Tejas, but many big and complex fighter jets. Naman was recently posted in the third squadron of Tejas and was given the responsibility of showcasing India’s indigenous fighter aircraft to the world at the Dubai Air Show.
Air Force family
There is a tradition of service to the country in the family of Wing Commander Naman Syal. His father Jagannath Syal served in the Medical Corps of the Indian Army and after retirement became the Principal in the Himachal Education Department. His wife Afsan herself is an officer in the Indian Air Force. He has a five-six year old daughter, who is the apple of the family’s eye. His mother Beena Devi had come to Hyderabad to meet her son and daughter-in-law, where Naman was posted. At the time of the accident, Naman’s wife had gone to Kolkata for a course, while his parents were present at Sulur airbase in Tamil Nadu.
