In addition, Abdul Kalam Island, which is located in the Bay of Bengal, about 150 km from Chandipur, is suitable for testing long-range missiles such as Agni-5 and Agni-Promm. Recently, the Agni-5 missile, which has a firepower of more than 5,000 kilometers, was successfully tested from this place.
Why is this place special
The first and biggest reason for choosing these places is their strategic and geographical location. Chandipur and Abdul Kalam Island are located on the sea shore, allowing missiles to be fired above the sea. This does not threaten the populated areas and there is also a huge open area to track the flight path of the missile. Testing above sea makes it easy to collect accurate data of missile performance as state-of-the-art features such as radar, telemetry and electro-optical tracking system are available here.
The second reason is privacy and security. There is no dense population around Chandipur and Abdul Kalam Island, causing the privacy of the tests. Abdul Kalam Island is particularly suitable for long -range missiles, as it is located in the open sea and the flight path of missiles can be tracked without any obstruction.
