The year 2025 was very exciting for Indian cinema. Every month big and small films were released in theaters and many times several films came face to face on the same day. Some films won the hearts of the audience and proved to be superhits, while some defied expectations.
But this year, the biggest discussion at the box office was about Ranveer Singh’s film ‘Dhurandhar’ and James Cameron’s Hollywood film ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’. Fans and critics are very excited about the head-to-head competition between the films.
Big clashes at the box office this year
1. Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire and Ash
Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ is an action-thriller film. Apart from Ranveer, it also stars Akshay Khanna in the lead role. The film, released on December 5, has so far earned Rs 668.80 crore at the Indian box office and audiences are continuously coming to watch it in theatres. Whereas ‘Avatar 3’, which was released worldwide on December 19, has collected Rs 109.65 crore so far.
2. War 2 and Coolie
Even on the occasion of Independence Day, two big films ‘War 2’ and ‘Coolie’ came face to face. Action and global location were seen in Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’. At the same time, Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ was an entertaining masala film, in which the star cast did amazing acting. Box office figures show that ‘Coolie’ earned Rs 337.5 crore in India, while the box office collection of ‘War 2’ stood at Rs 236.55 crore. Coolie clearly won this clash.
3. Mischief of the owner and the eyes
Also in July, Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Maalik’ and Vikrant Massey-Shanaya Kapoor’s ‘Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan’ were released together. In ‘Maalik’, Rajkumar played a courageous and just-loving character, which was appreciated by the audience. The film earned Rs 28.65 crore. At the same time, ‘Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan’ failed to woo the audience and could earn only Rs 1.71 crore.
4. Kingdom & Dhadak 2
There was a huge clash between Vijay Deverakonda starrer ‘Kingdom’, released on July 31, and Siddhant Chaturvedi-Trupti Dimri’s ‘Dhadak 2’, released on August 1. ‘Kingdom’ had a lot of action and powerful music, which attracted the audience a lot. The film earned Rs 51.65 crore. At the same time, ‘Dhadak 2’ did a business of Rs 22.45 crore.
5. Kantara: Chapter 1 and Tulsi Kumari of Sunny Sanskari
The biggest clash of the year was seen in October, when Rishabh Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ and Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ were released together on October 2. ‘Kantara’ had strong characters and story related to Indian culture and history. The film made a grand total of Rs 622.04 crore in India. In comparison, ‘Sunny Sanskari’s Tulsi Kumari’ collected only Rs 61.85 crore.
