To become an umpire in BCCI, BCCI organizes Level 1 Umpire Exam every year. In this, coaching classes are given to the candidates 3 days before the examination. After this, selection is done on the basis of merit. The selected candidates are given an induction course, where the nuances of umpiring are taught. After this, practical and oral tests are taken. After clearing this, candidates appear for Level 2 examination. To appear in Level 2 examination, it is necessary to clear Level 1 examination and within 1 year of passing Level 1 examination, one has to clear Level 2 examination. What is the salary of an umpire?

An umpire’s earnings depend on whether he is officiating a domestic or international match. Generally, the fees of BCCI umpires is fixed in the form of grades A, B and C. In this, Grade A umpires get around Rs 40,000 per match and Grade B and C umpires get around Rs 30,000 per match. However, this salary depends on experience and match level.
