The impact of the increasing confrontation between Jamia Hamdard University of Delhi and its Medical Institute HimsR (Hamdard Institute of Medical Science and Research) is now clearly visible on the students. While on the one hand the university administration is questioning the activities of the institute, on the other hand HimsR officials are firmly putting their side. But in the midst of all this, the most damage is being done to those students who were dreaming of studying MBBS or PG medical in this institute.

The entire controversy began when the Jamia Hamdard administration on 2 July 2025 issued a letter to described the dean of HimsR as “fake”. But surprisingly, a notice was also issued by the institute in the name of the same dean on 21 July. That is, universities and institutes are considering two different names as Dean. University Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain has been appointed as Dean, while Dr. Musarrat Hussain is working on behalf of HimsR.

Allegations of misuse of 813 crores, medical seats canceled

On 6 June 2025, Jamia Hamdard University wrote a letter to the National Medical Commission (NMC) and spoke about the admission process in HIMSR and lack of control over the online portal. Also, citing the CAG report, the institute was also accused of misuse of Rs 813 crore. After this, the university withdrew 150 MBBS and 49 PG medical seats for the academic session 2025-26.

Now NMC’s Temperary seat matrix seats zero seats, which is a matter of concern for thousands of students participating in NEET counseling.

Hamdard Education Society gave a donation of 426 crores

The Hamdard Education Society, who is looking after the operation of HimsR, says that this entire controversy is the result of the unilateral decision of Jamia Hamdard University. The society also said that they have given a donation of Rs 426 crore for the establishment of the institute and the institute acts as an autonomous body.

He also claimed that NMC has neither given any financial lapse against HimsR nor any disturbance in compliance. The report of CAG which is being cited is probably a mistake made in its records of the university.

Time of concern for students

Counseling of NEET has started from July 21 and in such a situation, students who dream of enrolling in HimsR will now have to pay attention to other options. However, Dr. Musarrat Hussain has said that the institute is constantly in touch with NMC and is trying to restore seats.
