SC, ST, OBC, MBC, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and physically handicapped students will get different seats and benefits in the university. In all the faculties like Arts, Fine Arts, Law, Social Sciences, Science and Commerce, 49 percent of the total seats have been reserved for students from special categories. In this, 16 percent seats are reserved for SC students, 12 percent for ST and 21 percent for OBC (except creamy layer).

Apart from this, 5 percent seats are reserved for physically handicapped students. This category includes those students who are permanently deaf, dumb, blind or suffering from loss of any organ. Similarly, 10 percent seats have been earmarked for the children of Kashmiri migrants and 5 percent seats have been earmarked for More Backward Classes (MBC).

SC, ST and OBC students will be selected in the merit list according to their category. If any student has secured more marks than the general category students, then he/she will not be counted in the reservation seat and will be included in the general merit list.

The remaining students will be given seats on the basis of merit as per their category so that the percentage of reservation can be fulfilled. The board has also made it clear that if necessary, seats can be given up to the pass percentage to fulfill the reservation.
