A woman will sit on the chair of Mayor of BMC. Its decision was decided by lottery on Thursday (January 22). In the reservation decided through lottery, the quota for general category women for BMC came to the fore. Now the question is, who will be that woman and which party will she belong to who will take over the power of BMC? After the reservation is decided, the name of the woman corporator whose name is in the forefront is BJP’s Tejasvi Ghosalkar. He won from ward number 2 of BMC. Earlier she was in Uddhav Thackeray’s party and later she joined BJP just before the elections and won. She is the wife of former councilor Abhishek Ghosalkar. Abhishek was shot dead during Facebook Live.
Political journey of Tejashwi Ghosalkar
Tejashwi Ghosalkar had defeated Uddhav group’s candidate Dhanashree Kolge. In 2017, Tejashwi Ghosalkar had won from BMC Ward No. 1 on the ticket of Uddhav Thackeray’s undivided Shiv Sena. On 15 December 2025, he separated from the Uddhav faction and joined BJP. Her husband Abhishek Ghosalkar was murdered in February 2024. Abhishek was the director of a bank.
Mayor is considered to be decided by BJP
Shiv Sena has also pressed for the post of Mayor in BMC, but it is believed in the political corridor that only BJP will appoint its mayor on the post of Mayor. BJP has emerged as the largest party in BMC elections and it is being said that after being the largest party, BJP’s mayor is certain. BJP contested the elections in alliance with Shiv Sena and won 89 seats. Whereas, Shiv Sena won 29 seats. If we combine the figures of both, then 118 is four more than the majority requirement of 114.
Despite Shiv Sena being in power, the Uddhav Thackeray faction won more seats than Eknath Shinde’s party. Uddhav’s party Shiv Sena (UBT) won 65 seats.
