Discussion on the name of M Annadurai in opposition alliance

The DMK is also in favor of the Vice Presidential candidate as there is ideological differences on the NDA on making CP Radhakrishnan as Vice Presidential candidate. According to sources, Kharge has been entrusted with the work of deciding the candidates on behalf of India alliance. In the meeting held at Kharge’s residence, the name of eminent scientist M Annadurai, who was awarded the Padma Shri, was also discussed. Professor Ram Gopal Yadav mentioned this name.

Suggestion to decide the candidate of Bihar or Tamil Nadu

Sources say that a leader suggested that due to the upcoming assembly elections and the entire SIR issue, the candidate should be from Bihar or Tamil Nadu. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will talk to the leaders of the India alliance including TMC Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and decide a name, which will be announced on Tuesday (19 August 2025).

It is being told that TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee wants the next Vice President not to be from the political background. This is being told that TMC did not participate in the last presidential election last time.

BJP wanted CP Radhakrishnan to be elected unopposed

On Sunday (17 August 2025), Governor of Maharashtra CP Radhakrishnan was nominated for the post of Vice President. The BJP wanted the Vice President to be elected unopposed, but now it will not happen. BJP national president JP Nadda had said that the next Vice President should be elected unanimously for which he will talk to the opposition leaders.

Assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu next year. In such a situation, the DMK has alleged that the BJP has announced the name of CP Radhakrishnan to take electoral benefits. Senior DMK leader TKS Ilangovan said, “BJP has nominated Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan for the post of Vice President keeping in mind its election benefits. Radhakrishnan is a BJP worker and his nomination for the second top constitutional post from the party is his promotion. It is not going to benefit Tamil Nadu.”
