Captain Suryakumar Yadav was part of Rohit Sharma’s brilliant team that won 10 consecutive matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup before losing against Australia in the final in Ahmedabad and now wants to play with him in the T20 World Cup title match at the same venue next year.
On Tuesday, defending champions India were placed in Group A along with Pakistan, USA, Netherlands and Namibia for the 2026 T20 World Cup, while Australia was placed in Group B along with Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman.
India has defeated Australia in two matches since that final held on November 19 in 2023, but the desire to defeat them in the final remains in the minds of the players who have won two ICC tournaments since then. India had defeated Australia by 24 runs in the Super Eight match of the last T20 World Cup and also defeated them by four wickets in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy this year.
When he was asked which team he would like to face in next year’s T20 World Cup final match, Suryakumar replied without any delay, “Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia.”
Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur also supported his point, whose team won the title after defeating Australia in the semi-finals of the recent World Cup.
“Australia is the only team we want to beat because this is a game that stays with you,” he said during an event to announce the T20 World Cup schedules and venues here.
