Whose Aadhaar cards are being closed? UIDAI has so far done 1.17 crore numbers

Aaadhar card: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has so far deactivated the Aadhaar number of more than 1.17 crore 12 digits. This step is being taken so that the Aadhaar number of those who died cannot be misused.

As part of this initiative, UIDAI has launched a new service- reporting of a family member on the MYADHAAR portal for registered death in 24 states and union territories. So that a person in the family can come to the portal and inform UIDAI on the portal. In order to maintain the continuous accuracy of the Aadhaar database on Wednesday, an official statement released on this, UIDAI is actively adopting these measures to achieve death records from various sources and deactivate the Aadhaar number after correct verification.

UIDAI has said that it has asked the Registrar General of India (RGI) to share the death records related to the Aadhaar number and has obtained around 1.55 crore death records from 24 states and union territories using the Civil Registration System (CRS). After the correct verification, about 1.17 crore of these Aadhaar numbers have been deactivated. The work is still being done to deactivate the number based on about 6.7 lakh death records.

Under the ‘Reporting of Death of a Family Member’, a member of the family of the deceased will have to give proof of his relationship with the deceased after the death of a family member. Those who have died on the portal will have to give information about Aadhaar number, death registration number and many other details. Your information given will be verified first and then the process of deactivating Aadhaar will start. UIDAI is also taking help of state governments for this work. As a pilot project, information related to Aadhaar card holders above 100 years of age is being shared with the state governments to help find out whether they are alive or not. The Aadhaar number will be deactivated only after getting the verification report.
