Indian-origin Zoharan Mamdani has become the mayor of New York City. He addressed the public on Wednesday (5 November) after winning the mayor’s election. Mamdani remembered Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru during this period. Mamdani also came into limelight because of his speech. He ended the speech with a Bollywood song.

Mamdani addressed the people after winning the election of Mayor of New York City. During this time he remembered Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Mamdani said, “I remember the words of Jawaharlal Nehru. Such a moment comes very rarely in history when we step from the old to the new, when an era comes to an end and the soul of a nation finds expression. Tonight we are going to step from the old to the new.

The important thing is that the things that Mamdani mentioned during his speech were the same things that Pandit Nehru had said after India’s independence on 15 August 1947.

Mamdani created history with victory

Mamdani created history by winning the election for the post of Mayor of New York City. All eyes were on this election, by winning which Mamdani became the first South Asian and Muslim person to hold the top post of America’s largest city.

Mamdani was considered ahead of other candidates in the elections for the last several months. On Tuesday, he defeated Republican Party candidate Curtis Sliwa and politically influential leader and New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo, who contested the elections as an independent candidate, received the support of US President Donald Trump just before the voting.
