Why does Delhi government want to bring rabies in the list of epidemics, what will be the benefit of this?

Taking a big decision, the Delhi government has decided to declare rabies disease caused by infected animals in the capital as a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act. Under this, it will now be mandatory to report every case of rabies in the capital to the health authorities.
The main objective of declaring rabies as a notifiable disease is to monitor rabies cases, timely reporting and taking rapid treatment and prevention measures. After the implementation of this order, all government and private hospitals and clinics will have to immediately give information about rabies related cases to the health department, which is necessary for the prevention of rabies in the capital.

New responsibility on all hospitals and doctors

The Delhi government has taken this big decision in the health sector, under which it will be mandatory to provide complete information about every case related to rabies in the capital Delhi to the health authorities. Under this, all hospitals, clinics, health centers and doctors will be required to inform about rabies cases, whether the case is suspected or confirmed. Everyone will have to immediately inform the concerned health authorities. The government has decided to declare this disease as a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act, which has also been officially announced.

Health Minister’s statement

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the government wants to stop the disease of rabies and not a single death due to this disease is acceptable. He said that rabies is a fatal disease, which can be prevented in time. For this reason this decision has been implemented immediately.

What will change after declaration of notifiable disease?

With rabies being declared a notifiable disease, many major changes will be seen, which will make prevention of this disease easier. After the implementation of this decision, all hospitals, clinics and health centers will be legally required to inform the health department about rabies cases or dog bite incidents. With this, no case will be hidden and timely treatment and prevention will be possible.

Government’s focus on prevention and vaccination

The government will do more to control and prevent this disease, which will also include providing more funds and resources. By getting the correct number and information about rabies patients, anti-rabies medicines can be delivered to hospitals and health centers in a better way.
