But recent figures show that the job market for bachelor’s degree holders in America is no longer what it used to be. Due to the lack of a strong job market and the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), students are facing difficulties in getting jobs despite having a degree. Students have degrees, but the number of companies offering them jobs is decreasing. This is affecting the students both financially and mentally.

According to a Bloomberg report, 25 percent of Americans with four-year college degrees are unemployed. That means one out of every four people does not have a job despite having a graduation degree.

Only about 1.9 million Americans age 25 or older who had a graduate degree were unemployed in September 2025. This figure has reached its highest level since 1992.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the unemployment rate for bachelor’s degree holders has increased to 2.8 percent in September 2025, half a percentage point higher than last year. However, unemployment levels are not as high among older workers, meaning that it is mainly young graduates who are being affected by this change.

The unemployment rate among American youth aged 20 to 24 was 9.2 percent in September, which is 2.2 percentage points higher than last year. This growth is not only historically large but has also not been seen this fast since the recession. This directly impacts those students who have just graduated from college and are looking for jobs.
