Buddha Jayanti is being celebrated on Monday 12 May 2025 on Buddha Purnima. It is believed that after years of penance, Lord Buddha attained knowledge on the day of Vaishakh Purnima in Bodh Gaya, Bihar.

Prince Siddharth Lord Gautama became Buddha on Vaishakh Purnima. On this day, worship of Peepal tree is important. Along with this, Kheer is also offered to Lord Buddha on Buddha Purnima. Know what is the reason behind offering kheer.

A woman named Sujatha saw Buddha doing spiritual practice under a tree in Bakraur village. He had become like a skeleton while doing penance. Then the woman gave them refreshments and gave them a cup of kheer. After eating Kheer, Buddha realized the medium route and he walked towards Bodh Gaya.

After eating Sujata’s kheer, Buddha reached Bodh Gaya and sat under a peepal tree and started doing penance again. Under this tree, Buddha attained knowledge on Vaishakh Purnima and he was called Gautama Buddha from Prince Gautam.

Therefore, it is believed that the hard penance done in Dhungeshwari, eating Kheer of a Gwalin woman named Sujata in Bakraul and the penance done under the Peepal tree in Bodh Gaya had a profound effect on the life of Buddha and he became Lord Buddha.

This is the reason that Kheer is offered to Lord Buddha. Today, on the special day of Buddha Jayanti, Lord Buddha gets mental peace by offering kheer and the communication of positive energy also increases.
