People often blame the government when roads are bad, but now Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has decided that responsibility will be fixed where the fault lies. Under this thinking, he has ordered the National Highway Authority (NHAI) and road construction companies to create their own YouTube channels and share video reports of every project with the public.
Now QR code will be installed on every road
Gadkari has announced that now boards with QR codes will be installed on every national highway. By scanning that code, any person will be able to see which contractor built that road, which consultant designed it, and which government official is maintaining that road. Gadkari said, ‘If the road is bad and people are complaining on social media, then they should know whose responsibility it is. Why should I be abused? The QR code will contain all the information so that the public can directly ask questions at the right place.

If toll is paid then the road should be of international quality – Gadkari
Gadkari clearly said that when people are paying toll tax, they should get international standard roads. “Weather or bad asphalt cannot be an excuse,” he said. If the road is not comfortable, repair it immediately. Expenses may increase, but comfort will not be compromised.
Emphasis on accountability and transparency- Gadkari
Gadkari said that now accountability and transparency will be mandatory in road projects. For this, he talked about starting performance audit, so that it can be checked where there are shortcomings in design or maintenance and those who do good work can be honored. He said, ‘When audits are regular, transparency will increase and excuses will end.’
Videos of every project will be seen on YouTube
Road Transport Secretary V. Umashankar also told in the program that now NHAI and builders will have to upload videos of every project online, so that the public can see the progress and give their opinion. He said, ‘Many times we get information about projects from the videos of independent YouTubers. Therefore, now we are making video uploading a part of the contract document.
25,000 km road upgrade under Rs 2 lakh crore plan
Gadkari said that the government is working to convert 25,000 km of highways into four lanes under a Rs 2 lakh crore plan. This will connect ports, and promote religious tourism and adventure travel across the country. He said that now precast technology is being made mandatory in highway construction, so that the quality increases and the work is completed faster.
