Last year, Zayed Khan’s mother and former actress Zarine Khan passed away at her home in Mumbai. After this, some pictures of his son Zayed Khan were revealed in which he was seen performing the last rites of his mother with Hindu rituals. These pictures sparked discussion online. Now, Zayed Khan has broken his silence on this and told why his mother was cremated as per Hindu customs.
Zayed Khan said that humanity is the biggest religion in his house.
In a recent interview on Zoom, Zayed Khan became emotional while remembering his mother Zareen Khan’s last wish. He also answered the questions that were raised about his mother being cremated as per Hindu rituals even though she was married into a Muslim family and has Parsi roots. Regarding this, Zayed Khan said that ‘Insaniyat’ (humanity) is the biggest religion in his house. The actor said that his staff comes from different backgrounds, and apart from taking care of their accommodation, food and expenses, his family also makes sure that their children get all the opportunities they need.
Zayed said, “As a family, we consider religion a very personal thing, how you choose to practice it, not something that makes one better or worse. These are not things that are nice to say. We see ourselves as a very secular family, and we don’t need to explain why.”
Why was Zayed Khan’s mother cremated as per Hindu customs??
Revealing her mother’s last wish, she recalled the day she sat on the banks of a ‘lovely river’, and “all I could think of was if I were ever to die, I want my ashes to flow in this river. I want to be free.”
Zayed said, “Whatever your mother’s last wish was, it will be fulfilled. It doesn’t matter what other people say, it doesn’t matter how hateful they may be. I don’t blame them, the circumstances are like this, unfortunately. It will take time to change those circumstances.”
